from: Een bekende smaakmaker van water is chloor.Chloor heeft een belangrijke rol gespeeld voor de waterzuivering, want het doodt ziektekiemen.
Het gebruik van chloor is sterk op zijn retour: 80 procent van het Nederlandse drinkwater is chloorvrij. Sommige waterleidingbedrijven gebruiken nog wel chloor bij de zuivering van oppervlaktewater, maar dan alleen in zeer kleine hoeveelheden.
Zo is bij bacterile verontreiniging in het waterleidingnet, die plotseling kan optreden door een leidingbreuk, chloor tijdelijk nodig om eventuele ziekteverwekkende bacterin te doden.
Deze zeer kleine doses zijn absoluut niet schadelijk zijn voor de gezondheid.
